Love (and dislike) Songs and Ballads

If music be the food of love, play on,
Give me excess of it; that surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken, and so die.

The concert

At the global level and in almost all cultures, love and and dislike are eternal and universal topics, especially in traditional or popular songs as well as in cultured music or in the famous German «Lieder». On this universal subject of love and indifference Sweet Winds presents one of its themed concerts.

The duo plays both songs and ballads from various countries, in their original languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Basque. They are songs that come from folklore or are compositions of contemporary authors and songwriters.

The program covers songs from the Middle Ages to our time and several cultural areas. In some cases the texts are poems put into music. The songs have been carefully selected and present a range of aspects related to the theme: happy and other times unhappy or dramatic love (both inside and outside the concept of romantic love). They develop stories narrated and interpreted with reference to the contexts in which they have been created.

Lilofee and Raphaël present us in a unique and original concert themes that speak to us of feelings like desire and hatred, encounters and separations, clandestine loves, marriage and adultery, loves and disappointments of youth and of mature age, life and death, of peace and war.
